ALLER CHEZ MORANDI

Authors: Bernard Plossu, Guy Tosatto, Francesco Zanot

Publisher: Éditions Marval / Rue Visconti

Bernard Plossu has always had a passion for the paintings of Giorgio Morandi, and when given the opportunity to visit his house, transformed into a museum, he of course brought his Nikkormat, deeply moved. Through these forty photographs, Plossu reveals the modest, ascetic world in which the painter lived and created his entire life, his books, the objects he painted tirelessly...

"For a few years now, Giorgio Morandi's apartment on Via Fondazza has become a museum. Unfortunately, the arrangements needed to accommodate the public have somewhat diminished the spirit of the place, and it is sometimes difficult to feel the artist's presence. That's why, upon discovering Bernard Plossu's photographs, I was so touched. Indeed, through his lens, this house is inhabited once more. Morandi is there, among his piles of objects, in his modest studio bedroom. You can hear the sound of his footsteps as he moves, his slightly short breath. He has just placed his old round glasses on a corner of the guéridon after glancing at this monograph on Corot. The Corot of the Roman period, the one he prefers. In the air hangs the smell of cigarettes mixed with the scents of linseed oil and turpentine."

Guy Tosatto

BERNARD PLOSSU

Born in 1945, this great photographer lives and works in France. His work coincides with the development of contemporary French photography. His sensual images, with their still and silent vibrations, speak to us of the softness of bodies, matter, movement, and other "intermediate landscapes." Themes such as travel, space, and family are often approached in an autobiographical manner, and his work features an intimate writing style, a language recognizable over the years.

GUY TOSATTO

Born in 1958 in La Tronche (Isère), he is an art historian and museum curator. Having worked at the Cartier Foundation in Paris, the Museum of Contemporary Art in Rochechouart, and the Carré d'Art in Nîmes, he later became the director of the museums in Nîmes, Nantes, and finally, the Museum of Grenoble until 2023.

FRANCESCO ZANOT

Born in 1979 in Milan, Italy. A photography critic and exhibition curator, Francesco Zanot has worked with the biggest names in world photography. He has overseen photographic books by artists, and his essays have been published in numerous catalogs and monographs. Director of the master's program in photography at forma-NABA in Milan, he is also the associate editor-in-chief of Fantom.
