ADEL ABDESSEMED, catalogue raisonné des cartons d’invitation
Authors: Adel Abdessemed, Jérôme Sans
Publisher: Éditions Marval / Rue Visconti
THE BOOK. In the manner of a catalogue raisonné, this book retraces, through nearly fifty invitation cards from solo exhibitions from 2001 to 2019, the artistic adventure of Adel Abdessemed, a major figure in the contemporary French art scene. Much more than a retrospective panorama of 20 years of career, it is an introspective look at the artist's work, which reveals, through free, erudite, and sincere speech, his reflections, anecdotes, or quotes on what some of these cards inspire him. Delving into his personal archives, probing his memory, he becomes his own commentator. About fifty cards reproduced front and back and views of exhibitions are presented in parallel, as many clues to a rich international career. This book allows an unusual and attentive rediscovery of Adel Abdessemed's career under the complicit gaze of critic and exhibition curator Jérôme Sans, who provides a lively and sensitive portrait of the artist in the introduction.
