SOAP OPERA

Author: Valérie Mréjen

Publisher: Éditions Marval / Rue Visconti

It was during a trip to Mexico that Valérie Mréjen began a unique collection of soaps with magical powers:

"At La Merced, Mexico City's central market, there is a section specializing in witchcraft items. You can buy vials of elixir or soaps to attract the desired person, keep them under your control, make them return if they have escaped, etc. The instructions indicate when and how many times to use the appropriate product, and which prayers to say in the shower."

27 of these soaps — and their precise and flavorful instructions — mark the book in 27 episodes of a Soap Opera, for which Valérie Mréjen provides a brief summary, in the style of television serials, sketching in small touches the destiny of her heroine.

"Victoria likes to change her soap regularly. She doesn't care about its cleansing or moisturizing properties, its beneficial cosmetic action, its pleasant scent, or its composition. She doesn't care if it makes her skin silky or provides well-being."
