ANNE ET PATRICK POIRIER, PHOTOGRAPHES

Author: Anne et Patrick Poirier

Publisher: Éditions Marval / Rue Visconti

"The approach of Anne and Patrick Poirier distances itself from Blossfeldt's photographic herbarium. Their latest photographs are a paradoxical tribute to Léopold Blaschka, the 19th-century Bohemian artisan creator. Blaschka was already the reference for their installation 'Such Fragility' (2004) (where three glass lily petals, placed on absorbent cotton, evoked the disappearance of their son). The sentence in parentheses can be omitted, but it is also a valuable indication... The metaphorical or allegorical dimension that has been repeatedly attributed to their sculptural and photographic work corresponds to an extension of the poetic exercise of language. The flower acquires a presence because it is an original form that continues to contain something of the lost paradise, but the experience of the timeless imagination of nature enters into a dual photographic and poetic process, inscribing it in the perception of the fragilities of the present time."
